Factsheet: Run A Swishing Event

Have you got clothes in your wardrobe that you haven’t worn for at least a year? If you have, you’re not alone… a third of clothes in the average person’s wardrobe haven’t been worn for a year or more, according to the waste-reduction organisation WRAP.

Maybe they don’t fit any more, or you just haven’t got round to bagging them up and taking them to a charity shop.

How about running a clothes swapping event? Known as ‘swishing’, it could be as simple as a few hours at your house or it could be a larger community event. Whatever way you go about it, it’s a great way to make some space in your wardrobe and get some new clothes for free – all while getting together with friends or people in your community.

Running a swishing event is easy to do, and we’ve produced a handy guide to help you, as part of a series of waste-reduction guides we produced for Cumbria County Council.
